Yamaha Paint the Front Row Red and White at Indianapolis

Yamaha Factory Racing riders Ben Spies and Jorge Lorenzo scored the first double Yamaha front row of the year today in qualifying for tomorrow’s Grand Prix of Indianapolis. Local hero Spies continued to impress with the strong form in evidence from the beginning of the weekend. The qualifying session saw him quickly up to impressive speed. Despite repeatedly breaking under the pole time for the first two splits Spies was unable to topple Casey Stoner from the top spot so will start from second place for the race.

Reigning World Champion Lorenzo finally made a breakthrough mid-qualifying after struggling for the first three sessions to find a competitive set up on the newly surfaced Indianapolis track. A big set up change to his YZR-M1 with less than half the session to go changed his fortunes, allowing him to climb quickly up to third behind his team mate with two quick laps in succession. Lorenzo will now use the valuable warm up time tomorrow morning to test the consistency of the set up before the race.

Ben Spies

“It was good today, we didn’t have a fast lap in the end but we got on the front row. We did over 30 laps on a set of tyres and went quite quick at the end, still able to do 39s which is good. The last couple of laps we tried our hardest to catch Casey but with five minutes to go I think I ripped my tank spacer off that holds me back on the bike which didn’t help. I wasn’t disappointed as I knew we had a gap to fourth so we’d be on the front row. It wasn’t the perfect session and Casey was just too fast. I think the race will be different; the tyres will be pretty greasy after ten laps but my bike’s working really well on used tyres so we’ll see what happens.”

Jorge Lorenzo
3rd

“Qualifying was much better than the other three practices so far this weekend. I improved a lot and had a lot more confidence with the front, we changed one bike completely which worked. We are much more confident for tomorrow now. I would like to be closer to Casey, but seven tenths is better than one second and a half. It’s going to be a very tough race for everybody. The front tyre, especially on the left side is graining from the fourth lap so it’s going to be a complicated ride. Let’s see what happens.”

Wilco Zeelenberg

“Well I can say one thing, we finally found the right direction to go in which is where we struggled until half way through qualifying. With the bike adjustment we improved a lot, we fitted a qualifying tyre and Jorge pushed for two laps. The bike was stable and we were quite pleased with the result. Ben has been spot on the whole weekend and I think he will be a big contender for the victory for tomorrow. We need to find consistency now and see if we can improve a little bit more for the race.”

Massimo Meregalli

“The overall result is pretty good today, both riders are on the front row and there is no better way to start the race. Ben’s rhythm is very good so I am positive; we have done a really good job so far. Jorge improved every session and is now up there so I am expecting a really good battle tomorrow.”

Sentul can enter MotoGP

GERNO IN LESMO - Jorge Lorenzo to give support to Indonesia to be able to participate in the MotoGP title. Racing Yamaha rider even mention, the Sentul Circuit worthy entry in the calendar series of two-wheeled racing's most elite in the world.

As a Yamaha rider, Lorenzo was quite familiar with Indonesia, which was recorded as one of the countries with the largest market in sales of Yamaha motorcycles. This Spaniard has even visited the country several times and some can speak Indonesian.

In recent times a visit to Indonesia, in addition to ad campaigns, Lorenzo also had a chance to try out the Sentul Circuit. The impression he gave of the best circuits Indonesia is also quite good. Drivers 23 years is even dare to claim, the circuit with a length of 4:12 km and 11 corners are worthy to hold races in MotoGP.

"Indonesia is a country that I love and enthusiasm of its citizens against MotoGP is also very unusual," said Lorenzo Crash.net was quoted as saying on Monday (4/18/2011).

"I am very hopeful that in the near Jakarta may come in the MotoGP calendar, they deserve it. I've been five times to visit Indonesia and I hope to be back soon, "he continued.

Since it first opened in 1993, the Sentul Circuit had never held a MotoGP event. Sentul last time Grand Prix event held in 1997. While today, the circuit is located in the Babakan Madang, Bogor, West Java is known is still used for event ATCC, GP2 Asia, Asian F3, Formula BMW Asia and Formula V6 Asia.

MotoGP back to 1000 cc

MotoGP back to 1000 cc after never using it for 4 years (2003-2006), clearly the reason is for privateer teams are not too burdened cost of engine development problems. The reason is that motor manufacturers are used to produce the 1,000 cc engine. But the difference with 1000 cc engine of mass production will be very different.

But according to former employees Corrado Cecchinelli at Ducati that is currently the director of technology development for the MotoGP, said all the more significant. Motor that is more easy to drive but have more power. Unlike the 800cc MotoGP character, which takes 3 years to become the perfect bike.

"Many drivers are more familiar with the character of the engine capacity of 1,000 cc. So we agreed to return the MotoGP to 1,000 cc. Besides financing the development of a prototype engine certainly will not be as expensive as 800 cc motorcycles. Well, with this course a lot more competitive drivers, "explained Cecchinelli.

Cecchinelli also outlines that it will return to MotoGP next year's 1,000 cc. But that does not mean that will take the area of the World Superbike, because the 1,000 cc engine in MotoGP is a prototype.

"Let me, however, 1,000 cc engine of mass production we will never use in MotoGP. Because of heavy machinery will not be able to lift power better than the prototype machine, aka the power to weight ratio, "added Cecchinelli.

Weight restrictions for angry Pedrosa

Repsol Honda rider was very angry with weight issues to be discussed at the Motor Manufacturers Association (Motorcycle Sport Manufacturers Association) in these next few weeks. This Spaniard is 21 kg lighter than the heaviest rider in MotoGP. With only 158 centimeters tall, then Pedrosa (25 years) looks very small on the bike.

If the restrictions imposed, not only the toughest racers will be subject to penalty. But, also because drivers have to add weight lightest bike. This will be experienced by Pedrosa and Toni Elias. This weight restriction campaign beginning to be waged in the Spanish GP at Jerez Circuit, 3 April 2011 by the Italian racer Valentino Rossi and Marco Simoncelli. Simoncelli was not fair to race with a weight of 72 kg.

"The problem is, because I'm bigger than all the MotoGP riders. It will drain more fuel motor. I also have to set the machine to be more efficient, resulting in no motor can be driven in a straight path," said the San Carlo Gresini Honda rider was in Motorcycle News .

Pedrosa, who weighs only 51 kg featherweight immediately respond. "The story is always accompanied throughout my career. In the 250cc class, all the drivers called me would not be able to race because it was small. But, when I started winning, they think I give a lot of weight gain," said Pedrosa.

"Now, it happened again in MotoGP. And I'm getting tired to face it because everyone seems to not want me to win. Indeed, I have good acceleration on the straight path. But, many people forget when I was upset at the corner for not having enough grip and no stronger when braking. "

"I also could not withstand the wind was too strong. I have the shoulders and short legs and could not move the weight as fast as a higher person. I always wanted to have a body 10 cm higher, as this will help me better control the motor. If the higher I will be able to move the weight forward and back quickly.

Meanwhile, the U.S. rider Nicky Hayden would support this restriction. "I think, lightweight racer has the advantage in fuel use. When I was a teammate with Dani, I spend a lot more fuel with only 21 liters in the motor."

"Heavy rider will bring a lot of traction, while lighter riders would benefit significantly from the corner. Rider weight more quickly spent fuel and tires," said Hayden.

Jorge Lorenzo, I was deliberately jump

Jorge Lorenzo did celebrate at Jerez on April 3, then by jumping into the lake that is in the middle of the circuit after winning the Spanish GP wet race. The same is done on last season when the winner in front of the public itself.

"I'm celebrating with the fans and I asked them if I jump or not? They said yes, so I jumped - Jorge Lorenzo"

However, there is an intriguing question about the celebration last week. Whether it was Yamaha rider jump or was he slipped after recording a second win in a row at home?

In the last season, Lorenzo immediately jumped into the lake after winning the race. He should get help because the action was heavy leather jacket because it makes it difficult to swim.

Then, last week, Lorenzo returned to a similar action. Though not appear dominant and more because of "help" its rivals who have an accident, the former double world champion 250 cc class is still making the same celebration.

However, this time Lorenzo apparently slipped while running to the lake. Then came the question, whether Lorenzo was deliberately jump or was he had wanted to quit but slipped and eventually plunged into the lake.

"I'm celebrating with fans. I enjoyed having fun with the fans, and I asked them, 'Do I jump or not?'" said Lorenzo.

"They said, 'Yes." So, I jumped. "

With victory on the second series MotoGP 2011, Lorenzo is now collecting 45 points and lead the standings. He was nine points ahead of Pedrosa, who this time had to be content to be runner-up at Jerez.
